SHOWS OF RYOKO
SHOWS STARRING RYOKO HIROSUE!
Being a singer in Japan usually means you have to exercise acting skills too and Ryoko is no exception. Besides having a large number of shows, she has also done many advertisements. However, I do not have a comprehensive list of shows she has appeared in Japan. So, I will list the shows she has appeared in, in Singapore. The list is short and if I get VCDs with her in them, I will also review them, so be patient and enjoy what I have to give at the moment.

Ryoko first appeared in the '97 'Red vs White' competition. (I'll give the Japanese name when I remember it :<) It is a friendly competition held every year to celebrate the coming New Year. The 'Reds' (women) take on the 'Whites' (men) in a singing/acting competition. It is really fun to watch, especially the old singers who do marvelleous costume switches. Also, there are 'guest stars' like Urutoraman (Ultraman), Doraemon, Gojira (Godzilla) and most recently, Kamen Rider! Anyway, back to the original subject, Ryoko's popularity was so great in '97 that she was selected to join the competition in '97. This competition allows only the 'chart-toppers' and 'everlasting veterans' to join so that is quite a feat for Ryoko. She sang her chart-topper, 'Daisuki'. It was then that I decided to get her singles/albums.
The next time Ryoko appeared was on a Singapore Chinese show. 'Wo men zhen nian qing' which means 'We are young'. It featured her music video 'Daisuki'.
Her third outing on Singapore television was a small role in a famous (in Singapore anyway) Japanese TV serial called Heaven's Coin (Die Stelien... or something like that. I'm working on a confirmation here.) This was more of a Noriko Sakai vehicle. (Don't know her? Where have you been? The Bermuda Triangle?) She plays a mute girl called Aya. (Surname, I need a surname!) Ryoko plays her best friend in her hometown and is really not given a chance to exercise her great acting talent. Her role is, sadly, quite negligible.
Her latest outing (to my knowledge anyway) was a somewhat major role opposite Takashi Sorimachi and Yutaka in the incredibly popular 'Beach Boys'! Ryoko acted as a girl called Makoto who helps her grandfather run a motel near a beach. As fate would have it, two incredibly handsome men appear in her life. They are Takeshi and Yutaka. This show just ended its run in Singapore and its CDs are still selling like hotcakes.
I plan on creating a Beach Boys webpage in the near-future, please keep checking this section.
